Projection Mapping Tutorial

Preparing for a
Show or Facade Purchase

Discover how to perfectly align the video with your house—it’s easier than you think!

All you need is a computer, a projector, and a beverage of your choice.

1. Set Up Your Projector

Position your projector (in housing) in the spot where you plan to project onto your house. Connect it to your computer and project your desktop onto the house. For the brightest and sharpest image, place the projector as close to the house as possible while ensuring it covers the area you want.

2. Mark the Projector’s Position

Once the projector is in place, mark its location so you can easily set it up in the same spot every time. Spray paint, rocks/pavers, buried stakes, landscaping are all great ways to mark the position. It is important to place your projector in the same exact spot since the image/shows are being created for that specific placement on the house.

3. Adjust Screen Resolution

Locate your projectors Native Resolution. Set your computer’s screen resolution to the native resolution (often 1920 x 1080). Ensure your projector’s keystone and any other image morphing features are set to 0 or turned off. It is good practice to check the resolution throughout the process to make sure everything aligns correctly.

4. Trace your House!

Open our Free Mapping Template Creator App on your computer and set your browser window to Full Screen. Check the current aspect ratio by looking at the resolution on the bottom of the floating toolbar. Look at your house and start tracing its lines using the software. Focus on the areas where you want to display video. You don’t need to trace every detail—just the segments that will help you identify where the video will be displayed. Your traced lines on your screen will and should look warped. (Example Below)

5. Export and Send

The final step is to export your image by clicking "Export as PNG" on the toolbar. You will need to follow the prompts to name/export your file. This file should be sent to the creator of your choice along with a picture of your house during the daytime. This will help the creator know the best placing of the elements and fill in the gaps of any missed areas.
